I removed the center switch panel and plastic shroud mounted in my Series 3 and found a host wires in the back.. I cant seem to find them in the wire diagram in my book. (not green bible, some other series guide, left that at home this weekend)

I also noticed that there are three holes in the metal dash, but the vinyl is not cut out..
Im assuming this is where aux. stock gauges go?
I am also assuming that some of the wires are plug and play for the gauges?
Are these the gauges I see being sold for oil pressure, temp, etc.?

Assuming the wiring is good  would this be a plug an play situation?

Yes, the cutouts are for aux guages, mine came with a oil pressure gauge in the farthest left position, I added a voltmeter in the center, and someday I plan to put a Smiths clock in the remaining position. (if I can find one that I don't have to take out a loan to be able to afford:D) Here's a link to a wiring diagram from our hosts. http://www.roversnorth.com/store/images/category/medium/LR-page84.pdf (http://www.roversnorth.com/forums/../store/images/category/medium/LR-page84.pdf)

I don't know there was any pre-wired setup for the gauge cluster in the center dash tray on the SIII. I think anything that would go there would be optional equipment. You can be pretty sure that the factory stuck to the same wiring color codes used in all the other Rover vehicles. You may want to bounce your wiring off the wiring color codes off the standard british wiring codes listed on Terri Ann's site (http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/Lucaswirecode.htm). Also, have a look at the wiring diagram for the 90 and 110. These had the optional instruments as standard and I've found that they stick to the same wire color code scheme on these trucks for the most part.

They're not--Those were optional gauges, not the ones on the instrument cluster in front of the driver, which are shown.

BTW--A somewhat more complete list of Lucas color codes can be found here (http://www.dimebank.com/LucasColours.html). If a previous owner installed those wires (as on mine), then all bets are off.

so would it be normal to have wires coming to the gauge pod area even though there are no gauges installed..

I have a slew of wires there with no obvious termination points

I don't know--Do any of those wire colors match up with any oil pressure oil temp or water temp gauge or other gauge color codes?

I've got a pile of spaghetti there only because the PO put a cigarette lighter and a 4-way flasher switch there, using whatever wire colors he had on hand...
