They are advertising NON turbo engines.....

Maybe I'm a little dense, but WHY would you want a 200Tdi with no turbo on it...for Nearly $3k ?? If you just want a strong little diesel engine with no turbo on it, go buy a half dozen 2.5 diesels for that much money. Or.... do some research on the Cummins B3.3T that is gaining some serious fans in the Land Cruiser community.

i think i talk w/ this guys and he was willing to include the turbo at no extra charge. he sell's 'em w/o for those who don't want to hassle with the fit issues of the disco 200tdi in a series lhd.

I was kind of wondering the same thing. I know that not everybody wants to have to get too creative in installing a powerplant, but eliminating the turbo takes away 1/2 of the benefit of having a 200Tdi in the first place (the "direct injection" part is the only other real advantage).

A half-dozen 2.5s would be strong. A single one...not so much. Perhaps you mean "tough" or "rugged"?? In that case, I'm with you all the way! :D

why waste your time with a 200TDI when you could do it proper and go with a 4bt or a 6bt. You will of course need some better axles, transmission, and possibly transfer case...but this is a small issue. :thumb-up:

It sounds like none of these guys have any experience with the 200 NA. ;)

I've heard is should be a very easy switch but not having done it, I can't give you a list of things to check/do. The turbo variant does have major fitting issues if it's a disco 200tdi. If it's a defender 200tdi, then I believe the relocated turbo will solve your trouble.

Do you have a specific question that needs answering?

Looking at the numbers it appears that the 200Di has about the same power at a stock 2.25. This begs the question "why?" If you are going to go through the trouble of an engine swap, don't you want MORE power? To each their own...

defiantly more torque and omitting the turbo from an engine built to handle one means it'll run for ever w/ just oil changes. what does the 2.25 and the 2.5 dzl get in the way of mileage? the 200 di is supposed to be in the mid 20s, isn't it? i'm going w/ the 200tdi when i hit the lotto but mines a rhd so even the disco set up is suppose to be an easy fit

The turbo is worth it, I enjoy driving our 200 tdi, but before the turbo spools it still is constantly bogged down.

Unless I am mistaken no one knows the HP and torque of the 200Di- I've never seen one that has been properly dynoed, everything I have seen has been seat of the pants guessing.

Given the $ involved with the DI I'd be inclined to go the extra mile and fit the full blown 200TDi. Even then I think we have better engines available to us here, they are more involved swaps but offer more in the long run.

My 2.5 NA consistently delivers mid to high 20s but I drive by my tach more than the speed. At 3100 rpms I'm going 55 mph. Distance driven to determine mpgs is measured using a GPS as is speed. I like the engine very much and personally don't feel that I need more power. The swap was done by Matt Browne. His install keeps the battery under the bonnet and he did have to slightly modify one of the motor mounts. I am also using my oil bath air cleaner and stock 2.25 petrol exhaust system. I probably will upgrade to an NRP Stainless system when the stock system craps out.

Matt needed to cut the head pipe and add a piece but I'm not sure how long it was. I also remember that he was pleased that the origional head pipe was still there because he needed something off it but for the life of me I can't remember what the piece was. Short answer is no.

OK that seems to make sense. the 2.25 diesel goes out the wing horizontally but I think the 2.5 exhaust manifold and IIRC it exits down but I think slightly forward of where a 2.25p goes. I often wondered how close it was and if it would mate to the 2.25p exhaust.
