Any One Know The History Behind These Numbers

There were numbers stenciled on the side of my block during production. I have seen them on other Series I & II blocks before. Does anyone know the history behind them?

I had similar markings on a ser1 block myself. The ser2 Forum has not come up with a clear answer either.

I had asked there initially. They usually have an answer but this one seems to have stumped them too.

I don't have any real information, but they sure look like military depot numbers (kind of an inventory and QC control), just a guess, but it's the first thing that popped into mind when I saw them.
