    Dancing Thermostat Needle

My thermostat needle dances up and down while I drive on smooth surfaces. Any indication as to what this means? Just thought I would ask before replacing the thermostat. Thanks in advance.

My guess is that you have a loose connection (or touching ground intermittently). Could be in the sensor side wire or the power feed to the gauge. I'd start wiggling wires while watching the needle to see if I could isolate the area of the problem. (or it could be the gauge, but I would eliminate the wiring part of the equation first) Doubt that changing the t-stat would affect this condition.
