Has anyone tried to mount a:
8000# Pound lb 12V DC Motor WARN Winch 38631 M8274-50
on the front of a Series IIA?

8000# Pound lb 12V DC Motor WARN Winch 38631 M8274-50 have been been successfully mounted on several Series IIAs ;)

Was your question regarding the appropriateness of of the 8000# Pound lb 12V DC Motor WARN Winch 38631 M8274-50 for the Series IIA? Or how to fabricate, or acquire, the necessary plate/bumper?

I can speak from experience, the bumper shown in LeafSprung's Photo are AMAZING. Best bumper I've seen for mounting a 8274 to a Series rig.

Not exactly your winch, but I did just mount a Warn on my III using this mount: http://amzn.to/ch1BVW

I'd love to move up to a Pangolin bumper some day, but in the mean time, I pulled the stock-ish bumper off the front of my III. That mount lined up exactly with the bolt holes on the frame horns so I got some longer bolts and sandwiched the mount b/t the bumper and the horns. So far it has worked quite well.

i like leaf's but nick's allows for hand crank usage. i would just hit that black mount with some cold galvy

Are you sure that Ike's precludes the use of the hand crank? I wouldn't be surprised if you could still get it through the fairlead and under the winch spool. Anybody know?

Edit: I went out and looked at my 8247 and agree that's it not likely that the hank crank could be used through the fairlead.

you can mount the winch as pictured and utilize the hand crank. The bumper shown does not have the crank hole though.

Nick's mount won't work for an 8274 because it needs a foot forward mount. I have a universal Warn mount that is foot forward. I can get the hand crank in but it is tight against the mount and you are likely to bust your knuckles.

Wonder if this one would work?

It hasn't been mentioned, but the bumper with winch mount that Ike sells is WAY WAY thicker than the stock bumper... ie you can actually hit things without bending your bumper..;)

That picture isn't correct but pretty sure that is what I have.

And as mentioned Ike's bumper is stronger, mine driver's side is folded in with a crease and has had to be pulled out several times. Some day I'll call Ike....

One I built for our ambulance. All tied into the frame, above and below, and can still use the hand crank

Just remember the energy from hitting something goes somewhere. Too stiff a bumper and you end up bending the frame. I think rover knew what they were doing.

It can be substantially thicker and still bend before the frame.

I think rover knew what they were doing.

they might have, but production vehicles are the result of engineers AND accountants . . .the stock bumper, just like the retention of the ten spline axle, deletion of galvanizing on the chassis and door frames and many other features was a cost cutting measure. FWIW a HD bumper produced by Mayflower Winches (later fairey winches ltd) was an approved rover accessory.

Get a full bumper replacement. That is what I did and there are so many benefits it is worth it. I know there are numerous ones available out there so plenty to choose from.

I'll plug for ARB. I've got a defender ARB on the front of my 109. It is :thumb-up:

Built mine to look like the original with a setback for the roller.
No hand crank provision though.

I do not know how you set the valves without the hand crank, it makes it so much easier. If at all possible figure a way to mount the winch and still use the hand crank. And you can start your rover with the handle if you have to, not a bad back-up.
