Default engine noise ?? Whats else to try

1995 Range Rover country LWB , 125k miles

developed a tick or clatter a week ago. Sounded like lifter noise , lifters were replaced. Noise still there. Possibly rockers or rocker shafts worn? Swapped rockers and shafts from a good running , quiet, '95 4.2. Noise still there. Start the engine cold , approx 10 - 15 mins the noise starts. Sometimes goes away, comes back, etc... Shut it off for 15 mins , start up same deal.

Thoughts? A bad lifter ? The inside of this engine is clean , clean , clean. The previous owner claims only synthetic, it looks like it.

    Thanks to all!

Could be anything. Bearings, wrist pin, broken ring, valve....How's the oil pressure? Compression? Lead down test? You sure it's internal to the motor and not something else under the hood?
