    Default 1983 Ex-MOD Defender 110 3-door

    PRICE DROPPED: 15K!!!!

I'm posting this for my friend so bear with me. I have owned a SIII and know that this is a trick truck. Passes the conversation test. I haven't seen any rust... It is in VERY good nick... no rust on the doors, I saw the rig last year and I never saw any rust. The frame has a black coating on it. I have also driven this and its great, goes through gears fine nice and smooth. He has decided to sell this rig, I have personally driven it and its great and drooled about owning it for years but I'm a poor gov't employee

History: Bought it from a dealer in NC, and by talking to a land rover guy in atlanta its believe to be a old gypsum mining truck back in the day and has been in storage for who knows how long until it was imported.

IT DOES HAVE A 1961 salvage title. This was done to import it a few years ago. All the paper work has been done and its legal now. He has the title... it was just like a year before the import law ended (25 years) so they slapped a 61 vin on there. Currently located in NC but moving to FL here within a month.

When you say it's legal now, are you saying that it is properly titled as an '83 110, but only came in as a '61 something? Are the correct VIN #s still on it? (3 of them)

ohh sorry for the late reply. I though I listed this thread as notify me.

It still has the title set to a '61. its titled in NC as a 61 SII.

PRICE UPDATE: He just took a job so the price went down to 15k

    give him a call

listed on auto trader as well.

I don't know about the vin's. I did personally see one vin and it came off that '61. I don't know about the others you would have to call and talk to him.

Sorry for being the middle man, please bear with me :P

Great livery! (if you can call it "livery")
As a newbie, please forgive my ignorance regarding grey-market importing, but what happens when the buyer has to have the truck inspected upon new registration....and there are conflicting VIN numbers on the '83 110's left corner dash, frame and brake pedal box? So, the inspector won't notice a missing VIN tag in the windshield area, or worse if the '83 VIN is still there. Salvage titles (even rebuilt) can trigger thorough inspections in most states and even if not, the older VIN would trigger further investigation by most RMVs, correct?

    Is this a time-bomb, crap-shoot or a good deal?
Google "Wisconsin-Pinzgauer.org" and look at what these poor guys had to endure after their existing registrations were revoked after five years of enjoyment. They are still fighting the legal battle to keep their Pinzgauers on the road. State DMVs are notoriously harsh on grey-market imports and it all depends on which way the wind is blowing sometimes.

Too bad because a 1983 would be exempt under the 25-year rule now anyway. Now you can't go back and do this the correct way anymore without serious complications, right? Even if you had the original import paperwork it would likely show that it was imported too early, what then?

Does anyone out there have direct experience with this type of title (where the VIN tag was obviously swapped)?

Simple DMV paperwork to do a VIN "correction" , not quick... but it can be done. Get everything 100% legal and above board and this would be a good deal. No one wants to dive into a paperwork mess and have it come back as stolen...

I wish that were true. I don't mean to disagree, but I actualy found that this 110 has a VIN from a 61 SWB SII and the VIN tage looked as if it were affixed with chewing gum (in the wrong place). Good luck getting it corrected. You'd be better off finding one with proper papers/VIN documentation. How are you going to prove that this entered the states legally? and good luck trying to convice your insurance carrier this is a '61 SII 88" (they're not as stupid as you think).

This thing originated at Tidewaters at one point, so there is a strong possibility it was imported too early (illegally) and/or worse pieced together with stolen bits.

Anyone who wants to roll the dice on this one has got balls. The truck itself is nice though (solid).

I ran for the exit like a scalded monkey after learning the details about the origins. No matter, it's being broken for parts anyway (or so I hear).

The process to get the paperwork 100% legal and correct will vary by state. Some states may let you register it as a "kit car" or "reconstructed vehicle". Until the paperwork is right, it's nothing more than a mobile pile of spare parts for someone.

I think this would most likely not cause a problem (in CO anyway), based on my experience. You might want the VIN attached with something other than gum, but last time I had a verification of VIN done here (in CO this is done not by law enforcement, but by a private subcontractor) the guy had me read it to him while he wrote it down.

The problem would only arise if you made a first party claim against your own insurance carrier, they might not want to pay to repair a 110 when they were collecting a premium for a '61 Series Rover. That might cause an insurance carrier to deny first party coverage based on misrepresentation.

There is some peace of mind in knowing that the vehicle is properly titled, but I really doubt that 110 would present any significant risk where I live anyway. But this is the wild west, we don't even have a vehicle inspection program.

It does make the truck a lot less marketable when it comes time to sell, particularly now that there are more and more properly titled trucks coming in.
