I have a 93 RR Classic LWB with the 4.2L engine. Has anyone ever heard of using this engine in a 95-97 vintage Discovery?

As long as you keep the 14 CUX injection system, there should be no problem.

So we would use the ECM from the Discovery? Thanks.
Yes, and you would need the upper plenum/injection system also.
This will only work on the 14 CUX Discovery (ie NOT 4.0 OBD2 type, 96-99)

The vehicle I am looking at is a 1996 LR Discovery SD with a 4.0, does that have the 14 CUX injection system?
Sorry to say, but no.
The post 1996 4.0 are fitted with the GEMS OBDII system.

Too bad, there are at least 20 trucks for sale around here with the 4.0 and blown cylinder heads. Thanks.
All is not lost. If you transplant the entire Harness with the ECU from your LWB, along with the engine, you will make it run. I am not well versed in Gems, but There may be some things, other than the engine, that require it. The only issue with moving the whole RRC EFI harness over is it's a huge rats nest of little things incorporated into it that have nothing to do with the simple ECU, it's necessary sensors, and loom to the injectors. What would be ideal if you wanted to spend a little extra, would be to get a Defender EFI harness. That one is dirt simple. Then it's just a matter of deciding to abandon, in place, the old harness, or slowly snip it out.
I think you could put it in a 94-95 Disco... Didn't the 94-95 have 14CUX too?
