Thread: Smiths speedo rebuild

    Default Smiths speedo rebuild

I'm rebuilding a smiths speedo on a 83 s3 exmod was wondering the order of component reassembly. I took my speedo apart and when I attempted to reassemble with new gaskets the glass was pressed against the needle spindle. It seemed to impede the movement of the needle. Please advise. Thanks!

There should be a bezel that the glass sits in, then a rubber o ring then the outer bezel that goes onto the case.
PS This is for earlier gauges. Later ones I dunno.

I believe it's the same for later ones.

So, how are you going to set it for accuracy?

I got mine recalibrated recently (at long last, it reads accurately). Some pretty specialised and cool equipment. Auckland Speedometer Services uses one of these and several other pieces of gear. It is used to adjust the magnetic field in the speedo.
