Rovertek on the D90 board has a shop in that general area. Search for him on defendersource.com, or at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Rovertek/102768113153074
516-902-1001 is the number listed on his facebook page.
Quick google map says they're about an hour away.
Good luck!

I'm fairly far away, but always willing to help out. Unfortunately, he'd have to come to me.
any decent "mechanic" should be able to work through a series problem, no?

That's funny, I think the same thing. How come a professional auto mechanic can work on something complicated, but they don't want to touch something so rudimentary and dead-simple?
Probably because they'll have to charge the customer for their ACTUAL time instead of the WAY over-inflated repair times listed, by vehicle, in the Chilton's repair estimating book.

I also think when they hear " Land Rover" they automatically get into panic mode. I was talking to a very reputable transmission shop about posibbly rebuiling my gearbox etc. He said well Land Rovers ZFs blah blah..I said wait a second, this a 1969 Land Rover I am talking about. He said oh, drop it off lets break it down and see how she is and I will give you a price for everything including transfer case..lol. The deer in headlight thing I suppose.. I am really curious about whats going on to cause "distrought". We been that way since the day we brought these things into our lives..lol ( I think)..
