auto headlights

I leave my lights set to "auto." They had been coming on just fine. Now... they come on when I start the truck, but after the guages settle, they go out... when it is dark outside. Has anyone else had a similar issue, or know where the sensor is located?

Sensor is in the center on the top of the dash. It's a dome shaped object.
