Thread: 109" pickup roll bar

    Default 109" pickup roll bar

I've decided that the tropical hard top and 3/4 safari rack that were original to my 109" just aren't ever going to get put back on (pm me if you're interested in the top, rack, sides or rear door). I bought this truck to drive with the top off...and so it shall be.

I've purchased a pickup cab for the winter, and am thinking of getting a bikini top and zip up door tops from our hosts for the rest of the year.

I'd like to add a single hoop roll bar for safety and to give me an anchor point for my seatbelts when using the bikini top. This picture of a bar fabricated some time ago by east coast rovers for a d110 pickup build caught my eye http://eastcoastrover.com/safaricage...ns/110bar2.jpg but it was a custom build, done by hand, and ECR doesn't have any plans or dimensions on file.

I've provided the picture to my fabricator to work from. My question is two fold:

    1. I can use the roll bar to support the back of the bikini top and act as the hoop, right? (assuming I install the capping over the door tops that keeps the sides of the bikini from flapping)
    2. I want the bar to be about the same height as a hoop so it would be possible in the future to put on a full hoop set and canvas over the roll bar, similar to what you see in the picture. How tall does a hoop stand off of of the bed rails, or in other words, how tall should my roll bar be?

    Thanks!!

A roll bar seen on topless military 109s ordered specifically for desert duty is a double hoop design. It has two hoops side by side close together with a few flat metal plates welded between the two bars to keep them together. This not only doubles the strength of the bar but it widens the bar's foot print if it were to roll on a deep sand. Sorry it has been about 20 years since I have seen one and I don't have any pictures

What would be wonderfully helpful is if some kind soul who has a hoop set fitted would willing to stretch a measuring tape from the top of the bed rail to the top of the hoop and give me an idea of how tall the hoop is, so I can be sure my roll bar is built to sit just below the hoop.

We have the double roll bar from our project ex mod that we might be selling. It's basically the bar mentioned below. I need to get some pics but here are a few I found online that look like the same thing.
