Thread: broken layshaft

    Default broken layshaft

    layshaft sheared in IIa suffix B gearbox. Some of the broken bits I removed are brass. appears to be a shim maybe. Looks to be around 1 inch Dia and about a 16th thick has small holes in it. doe any one have any idea what his might be and where it came from.

    That large of brass rubble with holes may be from the 3rd-4th gear syncro. See below.

    The only other brass I remember being in the main box is the main shaft distance piece. Pictures of the debris?

    failure was a worn out brass caged roller bearing on layshaft. probably 50 year old OE
