Thread: ENGINE OIL COOLER ADAPTOR PLATE

Default ENGINE OIL COOLER ADAPTOR PLATE

I appear to have oil weeping slightly through the ENGINE OIL COOLER ADAPTOR PLATE and where it mates with the oil pump.

Some questions. if you might be able to help I would be most grateful.

It only leaks when running and therefore under pressure I guess.

Is there a gasket between the adaptor plate and pump?
What torque do I tighten the nut to that holds the plate in place?
Will I need to re-pack the oil pump due to lost oil pressure when working on this item?

    thanks

    Default fixed!

Me again! I have fixed it after all. The nut that holds the adaptor plate in place was loose under the oil filter and so needed to be tightened up and this seems to have sealed the weeping now. An easy fix! There does appear to be a rubber sealing ring between the adaptor plate and the pump however and none of my manuals show this which is a bit confusing. I didn't remove it anyway.

The gasket ring is usually the same as the one on the filter. Next time you do an oil change, save the gasket from the filter, and keep it on hand. Always be sure that the center nut is good and tight, and don't overtighten the filter, as this is how the center nut gets loose.
