    Default Spare mount.

While working on my truck the other day I was loking at the spare mount on the rear door. After much contemplation I still can't identify the purpose of the large U shaped bolt that is in the center of the mount. Any guesses? Points may be awarded for originality.

    Cheers

Funny Guess: Spare U-Bolt for leaf spring to axel case?
Honest Guess: It helps to hold the heavy wheel while you line up the studs and holes?

It gives you another handle to grab when the Rover's brakes have failed, it is heading for a cliff and there are already a guy pulling on each bumper handle. If the door comes off before it goes over the cliff then at least it wasn't a total waste. Hopefully you then have a door and a spare to start your next rebuild - paying particular attention to the brakes..... (hhhhmmmm can you 'rebuild' a 90 or 110 using the door as the 'original piece'?)

It is there to help line up the spare onto the bolts

LR switch to "U" bolts when the asmbly line ran out of "ME" bolts and found that they worked better...
