    Default THERMOSTAT GASKETS

I have to replace my thermostat along with the 2 gaskets upper and lower. whats the best way to do this, apply grease or a sealant to them, or apply them dry.

    any opinions

I sand down gaskets surfaces to bare metal and clean them with alcohol. Then put some RTV sealant between thumb and index finger and lightly smear both sides of the gasket. Install and reassemble. Let sit for about an hour before adding coolant. Never had a gasket related leak this way.

I used Hylomar with the gaskets and haven't had any problems yet.
