Disco I rear end ratios

If I am correct, the Disco I comes with a 3.54 rear end. What other gear ratios can be fitted? I would like to fit a higher ratio - probably something around a 2.73 or so. Is that possible? If so, where can such gear sets be obtained?

Why would you want to do that? I do not think it would move with that high of a ratio...3.54 is actually quite tall as it is. most Jeeps have 3.55 0r my 98 had 3.73 and the 4 cylinders all had 4.11 as well as the Rubicons...Most people look for lower gears not taller ones. I doubt taller gears even exist actually.

Not to mention 2.73 is a lower ratio, not higher.
It is higher gearing however.

Why would you want to do that? .

Because you were running an alternative diesel engine with a lot more torque. In high range you are effectively running around with the equivalent of other vehicles with 4.3 R&Ps. 1.22 X 3.54= 4.31

Basically, that's it. Apparently, there are a few, relatively rare, LT230 tc's with 1:1 high range gearing. My goal is to wind up with 2000 rpm = 70 mph using the highest gears. Virtually impossible without an overdrive somewhere in the system.

Yeah-It doesn't help that the LT230 more or less cancels out the OD ratio of any transmission hooked to it.

Go talk to Ashcroft. Don't forget taller tires can be part of the gearing equation.

I am looking at doing the same thing. If I can get a 3.08 set in both axles that would put my disco II at 2108 at 70mph. Anybody know if this would be something that would hard break the drive train for make it not driveable?
