Maybe "they" should come up with a new name, instead of riding on the coattails of an icon?

I agree completely. What made Land Rovers unique in the automotive world was a combination of the aluminum body and the "Farmer's Friend" design which allowed so many different configurations to meet the owner's needs. Land Rovers were the tinker toys of the automotive world and could be any kind of workhorse you could imagine. I just don't see a new design that will be that malleable.

And somehow I don't expect the service life of a new vehicle to be greater than that of a Disco. They may call it a Defender and it may sell in huge numbers but at best it will likely be a highly capable dolled up shadow of the real thing, designed to take people who do not know how to drive off pavement into remote places by the push of a button (slick rock button, sand dune button, snow button, etc).

Oh well, whatever it will be or if it will be is not relevant to me. What is important is the ability to get parts to keep my SII on the trails.
