    Imported vs NAS Defender values

    Hello all,

I've been window-shopping Defenders for the past year, and have noticed the premium to be paid for a 1993 NAS D110 over the suitably rebuilt 25+ yr old import. Is this price because the NAS trucks are special (only 500 built), or is it because they are newer? It is an important question, because if they're expensive due to limited production, then in theory they will always retain significant collectible value. If they're expensive because they're newer, then 2018-and-after will be an interesting time when the NAS trucks are no newer than any Defender that can be legally imported.

I'm curious to hear what anyone has to say on the topic.

    Cheers,

They're expensive because the exclusivity, I was told by a coworker that a gentlemen paid $20k for a burnt-to-the-ground NAS 110 just to get the title. You could have an amazing TDi Defender for less than an alright NAS 110.

I think it's a combination. The NAS 110's will always be worth good money, but I would still shop for the vehicle in the best condition. I think part of the resale value of the NAS is also the fact it wasn't an import...Many people don't want to take the chance on title/registrations issues, where they know the NAS arent an issue. Also many of the 110's being imported are of questionable origin and previous condition...Most of the NAS 110's have always been fairly well cared for and loved, so that seems to help their resale too, and everyone generally knows that. Hope you find a great one!

If you take the import approach travel to UK to inspect the vehicle before agreeing to buy it.
