upgrade to 300 tdi in 1990 defender 110

i have a 1990 defender 110 that top speed is 45 mph and would like to upgrade to something with more power. i found a 1995 rolling chassis with a 300 tdi and complete drive chain and wondering if the 300tdi is enough power and how hard it will be to swap it into the place of he 2.5. i also have a 1980 mercedes 300d that i bought to upgrade the defender with but it runs and drives so good i am having a hard time deciding to tear it apart. i am sure to om617 would be a great upgrade but dont know about the difficulty. the cost of the rolling chassis is 5k any ideas are appreciated, thanks
