Looking at a 94 "Port of Entry" D90. Questions?

I read there were only 65 of them. Are they considered a "good investment" due to the rarity??

Things to look for on the POE models...or any 94 for that matter?? The one I am looking at has the metal hardtop with 2-piece rear door. I am checking to see if it has the later R380 tranny.

    Anything else??

    I have owned a 94 and a 97 D90, 4 RR's, a Disco, a 74 Series III 88", and 67 Series 2A 109"....but its been awhile!

    Thanks!

No, not a good investment due to rarity, merely a novelty due to mixed specification. Unfortunately, by not having an interior cage (the roll bar is just bolted to the roof at an angle) no trim in the cargo space, and soft-top doors, the POE kind of got the "worst-compromise" of spec. Its good if you like it (and I do like the clamshell back door), but there's nothing especially desirable there. If I had one (and I used to have one) I would fit regular station wagon doors, an actual SW roll-cage (available new from ECR), and trim-out the rear area.

As far as the tranny goes, the other thread finally nailed it - reverse is up and left on an LT77 and down and right on an R380. Good luck visually distinguishing the two when sitting on the floor of the shop. You actually have to know what you're looking at.

      Thanks Jim,

You pretty much verified what I was thinking. The roll cage, or lack of, and the door tops is probably a deal breaker for me.

      Thanks

Yeah, unless its a good deal, there's not a lot of reason to get a POE. Mine had been converted to a soft top so it had the nice cage.
