    Electrical problems III

    Masters of the Universe,

    I have a stock 97 D1 with ARB.

So i went off roading last week ..it jarred it pretty good, and then a couple days ago my truck dies while pulling into my street. today I swapped out the fuel filter and battery. it started up and i drove it home, then it stalled again. but it restarted and i got it home.
So I think its electrical..could something have been jarred when i was off roading? where would i look ..
ive also got to gert the codes read at auto zone or advance.

any advice would be extremely helpful.

    humbly,

    mv

ps, where are the ground points for the DI?

The ground points are everywhere. I am working with ground issues now. I would recommend downloading the Rave CD's, they have great pictures of all grounds and locations. Do a google search and you should be able to find them for free somewhere.

Good Luck...Lucas is the prince of darkness and his gremlins still live in all Rovers, I don't care how new.

Fuel pump? If it's original, it's 11+ years old now. Also, there is a relay on the right side of the engine compartment that can cause no start issues. It looks like a big plastic box with a large connector on the bottom. When this happens, check to see if you have fuel pressure. Just stick a small screwdriver into the schraeder valve on the side of the intake and check for fuel spray. If none, then your pump is probably bad.

        Thanks

        Thanks for the good word,

I actually switched out the pump 2 years ago, and swithced out the fuel filter and just switched the IAC valve today. Calibrated the IAC to 1 1/8 per the instructions from the generic parts box that Advance gave. I replaced this b/c the old IAC valve had alot of carbon build up all over the stem and pindle. sprayed air intake with cleaner and then later sprayed eninge starter fluid just beofere cranking and it started up and went up to ab 2 to 3k rpm then quickly died. but when i cranked again (didnt spray the second time) it didnt do much at all. any thoughts. could the air flow sensor be the issue?

          Thanks for any help, mv

ps, in response the the thread just above, I am becoming aquainted with LUCAS and his gremlins quickly. any association with LUCAS oil treatment, I use that to slow down a leak

replied to your message; also i put more detailed instructions on CD downloading/BURNING (important - you must burn to a CD before trying to use).

the shot of starter fluid tells you its a fuel problem of some sort, wouldn't have done anything if the problem was spark/electrical.

i'd test for fuel pressure just to be safe... check at the fuel rail, if nothing there go back to filter, then to pump. generally if you kick on the ignition in a garage or with your ear in the area you'll hear the pump kick on and run until you have pressure, this would generally tell you the pump is or is not kicking on. if its on and you have pressure there's no point in checking fuel pump relay, grounds, modules, etc.

just a thought, my 95 has a fuel cut off under the hood?

get the cds, they''ll guide you through the troubleshooting, but you're better to pick a point you know you can verify is working and follow the line of logic from there instead of shooting into the dark.

              reply

we checked the fuel rail and fguel just dribbled out, we tried cranking when we did that, but fuel just dribbled out, what would be the thing to look at if theres no fuel pressure. dies that mena that the fuel pump is out
