Howdy all,
I've got a Disco I with a five speed I'm building for my wife. The truck came to me with a bad engine and missing the bell housing splash shield. The bell housing area is pretty filthy; I'm considering putting in a fresh input shaft seal, but my Disco manual basically says "you can't do anything with the transmission".
My bullet pointed questions:
1) Can the input shaft seal be replaced without removing the plate/carrier it's in?
2) If the plate must be removed, is it safe to do? Where can I get the gasket?
3) Should I just not worry about it?
