95 disco 1 transfer case not engaging in high and low

my 95 land rover disco 1 transfer case gear shift only goes left and right but does not move forward or backward in high or low. To me the transfer case is stuck in neutral. I removed center console and took the gear shift boot off and removed rivets to get to linkage. At this point I can not see what linkage is doing that goes to rear or top of transfer case. I can see linkage that goes strait down. I was wanting to hopefully lube this linkage or at least get to it of where it goes to see what is going on. Is there a way to get to this linkage by not dropping transfer case. At same time can you move the transfer case gear in high and low when in park and the ignition not on? Thanks Help!

Is your vehicle an auto?
I had issues on my 5 speed that needed the t. box operating linkage to be stripped of all the built up dust, spilt soda/coffee and other debris that had accumulated over the years.
Liberal spraying of 120-4 Wayoyl and all is now well.
