It takes time... We bought it as a lease return from a broker in 2005-bone stock. It's been all through Colorado, Wyoming, Utah (Moab)as well as home here in Washington. I am finally getting a lot done to prepare for the Great Divide in August. I don't really have any stories other than I used to be a hard core Jeep guy before the family outgrew it, Cherokees were junk so not an option. After much reasearch, the Discovery looked like the best chassis available with a wagon body and it's been downhill since then. I now no longer have any Jeeps and a fleet of Land Rovers lol... I had the whole gamut too. CJ,YJ,TJ,XJ... Too many hang up spots and vulnerabilities and horrible body integrity-electrics. I found that all of the things I used to modify on Jeeps was already done on a Rover to begin with... After getting past the soccer mom snooty stigma I found that they worked incredibly well right out of the box. They have their quirks, but I would not replace them with anything, nothing compares. No one else has long travel coil spring suspension and a flat undercarriage in a small enough package to fit anywhere in the mountains. The high seating position and low sills with a ton of big windows enables excellent visability off road. It's just a perfect purpose built off roader. I think those who complain do not use their trucks where they shine above anything else...
There are many different roads you can follow to outfit your truck. All depends on what you plan to do with it and your own personal taste. I am kind of a traditional guy and put function above appearance but I do like things clean. For what we do, I felt the ARB was the best bumper as I like the winch between the frame rails for the best extreme angle stress management. I used ARB products on most of my Jeeps. I also like the protection. It does detract from the approach angle though and why many prefer minimalist tube or channel bumpers with the winch on top. I built a camel style winch box for my D1 that mounts between the frame rails and fits flush with the front of the bumper-no change to approach angle at all, but then you have no protection. The trick is finding what works best for you as everything will be a bit of a compromise. I have not built or bought a rear bumper for this reason. I am undecided. I look forward to seeing how you outfit your project. There is no right or wrong way to do it and they are never finished lol.
I'll try to take some better pictures when I get a chance.
