Diesel convert 2003 DiscoII

New to the forum, owner of a 2003 DiscoII. I have put more than 120,000 miles on my truck. I love it, but the engine is dying one me. Local mechanic and dealer is recommending that I put a new engine in or get a rebuilt engine. Any recommendations? Anyone converted their Disco's to run on diesel?

I love the idea of a 300Tdi or Td5 Disco II.

It would be a bear, though. Big money and big headache getting your computer to work correctly.

Overall I'm just not convinced that it's worth it. A proper conversion would likely run $10k or more.

That's just too damned much for me. Especially so since I could buy an o.k. '84 90 with a 300 Tdi for that price.

Don't let me talk you out of it; it's essential though that you have some idea what you're getting into.

Stu, you're a little off on the price , 10K won't even get you in the door for a proper conversion.

A 300 in a D2 would be too underpowered. The D2 weighs far too much for the 300 to be effective, especially in front of an automatic.

What about the state in which you live? How are the bylaws written for such a swap. I'd go the Td5 route, but that is $$.

Drop a 4.6 into your truck and you'll be much better off and have money left over. You'll never see the return on the diesel. Just my .02 though.

Where did you hear that a 300D fits? Does it bolt up without an adap? Just curious

As noted above, check the state laws. As this is OBDII, most would require using a scanner tool as part of the yearly inspection.
A 300 Tdi does not meet this requirement.
Also having assisted a customer with a TD5 installation in a 2002 DII, requiring new dash harness, alarm recoding and a catalogue of parts, not a path I would recommend.
