I purchased it new and have maintained my Disco 2004 meticulously, but the oil pump blew and now my engine needs to be replaced. No warning, just blew and then oil light went on...followed by loud banging. Ugh! I've owned an earlier Disco and a Classic Rover, and this car has been well taken care of. How do I know a new engine wont have the same problem? Any suggestions in replacing it?

I think everyone on this forum would agree: The solution to your problem is simple: Get rid of that Discovery and get an old, leaf-sprung, reliable Series Land Rover, like any depicted in this thread of this forum.
Otherwise, you'd probably have better luck posting in the Discovery II section of the Rovers North forums...--Mark

You may get more response from this BBS if you post it under Discovery threads. This is for the old Series trucks.Kevin

The last year for the Disco II was 04, and what we heard was the casting machines at the factory were not calibrated for the last production run. Therefore, a misalignment on the dowel pin on the block to the front cover caused many a 03-04 Disco to blow the oil pump. I think I replaced an engine at around 1500K once. I do remember doing PDI's on these things & seeing oil leaks at less than 10 miles from the front cover & oil pan. Throw another motor in it since they went back & corrected the problem after a certain VIN range. EIther that or get a pre-03 Disco II.Comment
