Front Prop shaft / U-joints

About six months ago I replaced the front three u-joints on my 2000 DII (I've done probably 40 on other cars). All was fine. Now the front shaft is clunking hard and the Rover shop (independent) is saying that they always replace the entire propshaft as the stress and wear and always end up being replaced anyway within a few months after the joints are replaced. Anyone had this experience?

I call BS on this, I have over 40K on mine since replacing the u-joints and centering ball.

Did you replace the centering ball when you did the u-joints?
Or you may have had one of the needle bearings fall over while install the caps.

I have chanaged three greasble u-joints 20K miles ago and it runs perfect so far.

Below photo shows old U-joints before I replaced them.

Didn't replace the centering ball. I looked like new. Didn't lose any needle bearing either. Could have goofed the install on the caps...but I doubt it. Thanks for the reply.

Your's looked like mine did when I pulled the prop shaft. Aaaaa, that A/C condenser tube. Caps came out without any issues. New joints went in without too much of a struggle (doing it alone as I was. That third arm really came in handy. :-) ). Didn't replace the centering ball, but it looked like new.
The story I'm getting is a lit of the clusters fail again in under 20K miles following a rebuild. Seems goofy to me too.
