Locked out/key does not work 99 Discovery SII

I was locked out of my 99 Discovery SII. Have been using the key for a couple of years as the "unlock" button stopped working and all of a sudden the key no longer turns in the lock. After a couple of days pondering, I got one of the key fobs and pried it open. I looked at it and noticed that inside the contact for the "unlock" button was moved so it would not make contact when pushed. I moved the contact over with my swiss knife pliers and pushed the button and it worked and unlocked the truck. Now the Question- I need to replace the lock on the driver door. What does this include, just the lock or does it need a new lock and key and what about the ignition, does that need to be replaced also or just use two keys? If anyone has any info I would appreciate it. A dealer is out of the question as I live way out in Wyoming and the nearest dealership is 7 or 8 hours away and I run a small business that requires daily attention. The good news is I have an excuse to drive my Defender more often. Thanks for any responses to this small project.

Thanks for the info on the repair for the "plip".

Do you need the new door latch of the door lock?

If the door lock, they are Dealer only, and VIN specific. The turnaround time for ordering one is 6-8 weeks!

If the door latch (with integral CDL actuator) RN generally keeps one on the shelf.

I have had the rod on the handle ( it goes from the handle to the actuator ) break on both of my discoverys (99 and 00) had to buy the drivers side handle to get the rod. but I was able to keep my old handle and lock buy just swapping out the rod. It is held in with a roll pin. easy repair and i got to keep the same key and locks. Man you would think you could buy just the rod but nooo. I PAID $30 FOR A USED HANDLE JUST TO GET THE ROD. Still beats $78 at the dealer and a newlock keyed.
