Mobil 1 oil filters, 04 Disco

    Hello,

Time for my first oil change on a new to me 2004 Discovery and I've heard mixed info regarding Mobil 1 oil filters.

    M1-301 or M1-204 ???

    Thanks again

What's up? No one uses Mobil1 filters on their Discovery?

One more question, I'm missing the owners manuel, I'm assuming 6 quarts of 10W40. Am I correct on that?

    Thanks again.

Greetings, I would recommend Genuine Land Rover oil filters.

Depending upon weather and temperatures, 10/40w oil viscosity is recommended from Land Rover.

      From the Owner's Manual...

      "Engine oil - V8 - North America
      From the workshop manuals:

Use a 5W/30, 5W/40 or 10W/40 oil meeting specifications API SH or SJ, having a viscosity band suitable for the temperature range of your locality."

Engine oil refill and filter change:
          V8 Petrol vehicles 5,80 litre (6,128 qts)

Taylor of TCongletonRovers.com recommends 7+ qts for a change.

We use Amsoil here at Rovers North. I run the 15-40W heavy Duty Diesel oil in my wife's Audi S6 and just turned 212,000 miles this morning with this oil in since day one and purrs like a kitten. I use 5-30w Amsoil in my MINI Cooper S and used to run Amsoil 10-40w in my Defender 90 Soft Top.

Wix 51515 (about $5.50 locally) or Hastings/Baldwin B2 are two top notch filters.
The above 2 numbers are the extended length/capacity filters.

FWIW, the guy that did all the minimopar filter analysis uses Baldwin.
