    Escape hatch

Looking at the Oxford and Cambridge vehicles they had an escape hatch on their hard tops. Does any one know if this was a factory modification or came standard on some tops? Has any one built one on their ii, IIa, or iii hard top?

I did see a hatch on a hardtop on Craigslist in MA a year or so ago. That said, it looked custom.

        Hatch

I am sure it can be a shooting hatch. I was just going off some of the videos commentary.

According to the book, They expedition members built the hatch to allow them to film the journey from a different vantage point. There was a replica of one of the trucks built a few years ago, (i forget if it was Cambridge or Oxford) and they built a similar hatch from the existing photography from the trip.

In other words, this is not a factory option, nor is it a special vehicles one off. it was a do it yourself execution.

              Zombies

              TedW,
I agree. The hatch would allow you to zazz up zombies while the wife drives!

Someone on here or G&R had a roof with a shooting hatch in it for sale. I just don't see the point though?

                    Hatch

I was very curious to it's origin and how wide spread it was.

Go on the UK forums and ask about "shooting hatches" and you'll see a few. Also military 110s have some sort of "escape hatch". I guess if you wanted to add one you could cut the escape hatch out of a school bus and install it. Other than for cinematography though I can't see the point.

                        I have one

I purchased the one off of Craigslist last year.Definatley a homemade contraption. I can take pics in the Am if anyone is interested.

My plan is to use it as a donor to convert my 88 top into a safari top.

I am finally installing a 3'x3' folding fabric sunroof in my 109. I always wanted and access hatch and this seemed like the most functional way to execute it (no large door/panel to flip open).

On my POE D90, after a scaffolding shackle flew thru the sun roof at 70mph on the 5 FWY, I got a MOD sun-roof panel. You turned the knob and pop out the panel up, then lifted and turned it to drop it inside. After I sold the D90, I bought another to put in the ambulance, but to this day it sits in the garage.
