Why are door seals so expensive!?!?

And what are some alternatives aside from ordering Defender seals for my 109?

There must be some sort of standard seal type that can be cut to length and sectioned to fit.

I am almost certain that Beulah won't be a concourse vehicle anytime soon so I am not worried about OEM at all for this particular project.

Are they? I bought a set (2 front doors & rear) last year and thought they were reasonable at $36.80 per front door for aftermarket.

Genuine is $101/ front door which I agree is way high.

Just go to a "U pull it"-type auto salvage yard....find a sedan or minivan with plenty of rubber door seal stripping in good shape. Take a razor blade and get as much of it off the donor car as you can...it's easy with a razor blade. Make sure the cross-sectional shape is at least CLOSE to what was on your Series.

Go to pretty much ANY auto-parts store and pick up a black tube of 3M "super weather-strip adhesive #080010(or something like that)...the best stuff is yellow, but comes in a black tube the size of an RTV tube. Maybe $8. That stuff is the BEST adhesive out there for adhering rubber weather-strip.

You can do your WHOLE rover this way. Saves a ton of $$$$ and looks and works just as well as the genuine parts. Salvage yards might charge $10 for a whole minivan worth of weather-stripping!!

Total job cost: $18

What about 110 door seals for the front and middle row? Will those work on a 109?
