    Tailgate Shelf

Here is a little tailgate mod I did to my 88 to up the carrying capacity a bit. Some one asked me about this a long time ago, so sorry I took so long to post the pix.

    The simplicity really works.
Wonder how many are going to look at this and say "Why didn't I think of that?"

Now, why didn't I think of that? :P

I like it. Like it a lot.

Just one small suggestion that I'd make is to thread the two chains through a couple of pieces of bicycle tube to reduce the rattling while moving. I do that with the inside tailgate chains.

Yes, it is such a simple but clever idea. Wish I could take all the credit for it but that goes to my friend Tom Tollefson. He has a habit of whipping up stuff like this. At the moment I believe there are only two in existence, the other being on my buddy Larry's 88.

To secure it in the up position, I just throw a bungee on it or (when I can find it) I have a Velcro strap that slips through on of those loops on the tail gate.

I'd bet money, a cooler full of beer would look "awesome" on there.

                Alan,
I'm looking for a inner tube big enough to slip over my entire truck to reduce the rattling.Got anything down in the NZ that may work?

                  Hi Moose,

I just wanted to say how much I like your liftgate shelf. It's really innovative and useful and I wish I would have thought of it! Nice work!
