Steering Wheel Swap

Planning on replacing the later all black black tri-spoke wheel with the earlier banjo chromed spoke wheel on a '66 SIIa 88 RHD.

Few questions...

Can it be done, are they interchangeable? Or do I have to swap the steering column?

In the attached photo, i'm not sure where to attach the grounding wire to the banjo horn plate on the left. i don't see the clip like the one shown on the right. thoughts?

What kind of peril should i be looking for?

You'll have to swap steering columns or the entire box. The wheels are not simply interchangeable. The ground wire simply plugs into the receptical in the middle of the horn button on the left.

banjo wheel looks cooler, but all plastic wheel more comfy. Think about having to hang your fingers from the wire centers for hours, or worse yet, having the wheel bump steer violently. Then the wire center isn't so cool any more.

I don't know. I've had no issues with either type as far as comfort goes and if the wheel kicks you in the thumb, both types hurt. Sounds like a personal preference issue more than anything. Would I go throught the hassle of switching just for the sake of it? Not worth it to me but I have no issue with someone else doing it to theirs.

the plug in recepticle is for the horn button mechanism. that's parts easy, it's the soldered bit for the cap on the right side of the picture i'm concerned about. the cap on the right has a clip that you can solder the ground wire to, the cap on the left does not.

Last week I went through the same ordeal with my banjo wheel. I did the conversion from the later wheel to the banjo as part of my power steering conversion. You do need to swap columns. As for the wiring, using a male bullet terminal on the wire from the column, I plugged it into the middle terminal on the horn assembly. The soldered wire on mine I left alone (wrapped some electrical tape on it to be safe) and the horn works perfectly. As a side note, my banjo wheel didn't have the middle terminal or the piece inside of it that attaches to the horn button. The entire inner assembly from the later model wheel is a perfect match for the innards of the banjo, so they are interchangeable.
