    SU Carb Part Question

I have an SU carb on my 67 NADA 2.6L Petrol motor. We discovered that the 90 degree aluminum elbow that goes out of the carburator and into the Air Filter element is 2 1/4 inches in diameter, while the carburator is a 2 inch diameter.
Does anyone know if Rover has a 2 inch elbow? If not, has someone made any mods that work? Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ray

Just looking at the diagram in the parts cataloge and trying to wrap my head around what you're trying to do...

I understand that you want to reduce the size of the orifice where the elbow plugs into the air cleaner hose so that it is the same size as the orifice on the carb's side-draft intake, where the elbow setup bolts on?

Bearing in mind that I don't know a whole lot about tuning or increasing an engine's performance, I ask "what does size-matching the apertures do?"

Yes, what are you trying to accomplish? If I understand this right; the carb inlet is 2" and the elbow to it from the air cleaner, is 2 1/4". If this is so, it makes no difference, it just assures you that the air volume is sufficent to the carb. If it was the other way about it would be a problem; a 2" air inlet feeding a 2 1/4" one to the carb.

I'm thinking he just wants a tighter fitting joint where the two meet???? Something to take up the 1/4" difference from one pipe to the next?

Thanks for the replies. I found out that there is a possibility my carb isn't stock. It appears the NADA trucks had a 2 1/4 Carb similar to what was used on 51 & 52 Chevy 6 cyl trucks. I am not interested in getting a new Carb, so I will have to figure out a better fitting. The truck is at the mechanic and I don't have a good visual of what he is trying to do. I will be looking at it on Mon and will report back with pics.

You should talk to Joe Cuerto (I think that's his name)-he is a SU expert and can get parts etc. I don't have his info on hand, but I have a magnet with his details if google doesn't help. I the SU tuning tool from him along with needles and a rebuild kit.
