    Period-correct off road lights

I am curious what make and type of off road lights would be correct for a '66 2A? I have found several Lucas lamps that look the part...big chrome housings and everything...bu can't be sure if these would be the right thing. Cibie also seems to be a brand that pops up on searches of Ebay.uk. Anyone have any pics of old trucks with lights?

Jeezis Ike, don't drop that darn thing on your foot! What a monster. Looks like there's a bolt hole to mount it on the hinge? Is it military or what? Lucas lamp?

That mounting arm looks very versatile.

Might look for vintage Rally or Baja pics..

Lights were very simple and small back then.
Rally cars one option, Monte Carlo, look also for MK1 Cortina and other period British cars.

The Lucas "Flamethrower" was a popular lamp back in the late 50's to mid '60s. They were available in clear and amber, with fog, driving and pencil beam lenses. The "Flamethrower" style was also available as a replacement high beam lamp in the old quad headlamps, and as a 7" headlamp for twin headlamps.

Reproduction accessory lamps are available, but I have no idea about the quality.

I had a set of "Flamethower" lamps on my TR3, and sold them a long time ago.

The Lucas "Square 8" lamp was also popular in the late 60's and early 70's. Properly dated used ones can get pricey as they were used on '68, '69 and '70 Shelby Mustangs.

Modern lamps will be far superior lighting units.

I like the Square 8's, I had some on a Moggy Minor, swapped on to an Allegro (that did not last long) and finally onto to a 1.8 Marina Coupe (ex Rotherham CID), that was a nice car bur rusted out underneath me.

Ummm...did people even use "off-road lights" in '66?
I'm betting period correct would be stock headlamps.
KC HiLites would only be anachronistic by 4 years.

Of course they used off road lights. I remember rally cars from the 60's with big lights up front, usually with tape Xes on them in case the lens busted. Still trolling Ebay.uk for some cibie ones.

Yeah, rally cars, but I don't remember auxiliary lighting like that being used off-road. The photos I've seen of people like Ed Perlman from the 60's had pretty much stock lighting. Though I suppose there were probably some people who used them.
It's been a while, but when I was first getting in to off-roading in '72 I don't remember ever seeing off-road lights. Of course that might just be oldtimers disease.

Most likely. Also known as CRS syndrome (Can't Remember Sh!+)
Well, I didn't say I wanted to install lights as if I were Joe 1960's off roader. Just want to install lights that have that period look.
Certainly the 2A with a darn Tdi and coils isn't quite "period correct" so it's not like I'm trying to recreate something that actually was so much as something that carries that flavor.

Ah, gotcha. Then circa 1971 KC HiLites.
Though the early ones didn't have rubber isolators so the bulbs didn't last long.
When you're searching ebay, use the word "vintage", if you haven't already. It's a key word people seem to use so they can charge more for old stuff.
