    I'm Back. Propshaft help.

I'm trying to remove the rear propshaft where it connects to the transfer case, but I cant seem to get my socket to fit over the four bolts - the U-joint is in the way. This is the first time I've ever removed this. Get a different socket, or is there another tool? Also, if you recall the socket size so I can stop by the store without getting dirty right this second it would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

I think it's a 9/16". I use a 12 point thin wall socket with an extension. You have to rotate the shaft to find the best position. I believe there is also a "special" tool for this.

Same here. I use a long extension and go down through the hell hole so the driveshaft is pointing down and away from where I'm un-nutting the thing. I can usually get 3 of them before I have to roll the rover back/forward a bit to hit that last one.

I'm sure our hosts have one as well. Works like a charm.

Sometimes, if you remove the rear first that gives you a little wiggle room to manipulate the driveshaft, rotate, and move so that your sockets can attach,

                  Tony,

Thanks for the endorsement. I, too, was impressed with it and wondered why I struggled for so long without one !
