water pump for 1982 stage 1

Need a new water pump for 1982 Stage 1, can i use a standard water pump ? Mechanic seems to think that we can use a pump from a Buick standard to that time. Any thought s or suggestions. They seem to be on back order.

    Standard?
There's no such thing as standard.
Stage 1's have an assortment of part numbers for water pumps, depending upon age and use.

If the Buick fits, I guess so.

The Buick pump won't fit, although these are basically Buick engines. You'd need a Buick front cover to do this, the one for the rear drive V-6's works (and is cheaper than one for a Rover, but it opens a new can of worms). Try looking at the Range Rover pump to see if it's what you need, I changed mine a few years back and that's what it took. The pump on my Rover 3500S was different, but everything else was the same as the V-8 in my Series III (it has the early Range Rover V-8).
