    LED Headlamps on a Series ??

    Anyone have experience with LED headlights?


    Any issues with pattern coverage in a Series II/IIa with the inboard headlights?

    I have seen LEDs in action and they sure do work well. I can't imagine it would make any difference on a 2/2a. I'd love to try them but they are too rich for my blood.

      I think Barnfind (Rob) has them on his truck and likes them. As Jim said, they look like they work well, but too expensive for the likes of me.

        I have no experience with them mounted in the breakfast, but in the wings they are fantastic!! Occasionally napa will have them on sale (how i picked mine up) but beware, they are VERY expensive, and the price they name is just for ONE light. They draw very little amps, I can leave them on for long periods of time without the truck running, and have plenty of juice to start up. On high beam, they are capable of giving the passengers of oncoming cars a sunburn. With these lights I no longer feel the need for extra auxillary lights for camping/off-roading. If you have the scratch, I would say get them. I feel much safer/confident driving the rover at night with these lights.

            As far as I know for these headlights: none. They are street legal and DOT approved, but their powerful high beam makes them popular with the off road crowd

              Interesting. In these parts, there are a number of restrictions on the use of LED's for front facing head lights, fog lights, driving lights, and so on. One of the main problems is the brightness of the beam. Well, not so much the brightness as the intensity of narrow beam lights and the dazzling effect they have on oncoming drivers.

              Offroad wide angle and spot lights are very popular (a lot are designed in Australia, through ARB and Hella), but they are not allowed to be used on the road. However, it doesn't seem to stop idiots from driving with fog lights on in low light situations.

                That statement does remind me of the oft used quote; "The more people I meet the more I like my dog".

                Down here most of the cars are US spec with headlights aimed for right side of the road driving but we drive on the left (UK, NZ style). This way the lights are aimed directly into oncoming traffic. The headlights are supposed to have the aim corrected when the cars come in but it never happens. Plus as far as I can tell no one here knows where the dip switch for the high beams is located. Even flicking the high beams and swerving erratically into their lane rarely has an effect.

                      I have the new Warn LED auxiliary lights on my F350 they are great an as bright as most out there. The big issue I have Found is if you drive during the shoulder seasons where slushy snow rain etc freezes to them they do not generate enough heat like halogens do to melt the ice and keep them clear. As main headlights that could pose an issue.

                          I've got a 22" LED light bar sitting on my shelf. Been there since February. Maybe one day I'll get around to installing it.

                          From what I've seen riding with others, the light bars bring all kinds of epic win. If you find yourself on dark lit, desolate roads often, then this is quite the investment.

                          However I try to avoid driving after dark. Things just don't go my way when the sun goes down.

                              Yes,
                              I have the Truck-Lite 27270C headlights on my Series 3. LOVE them! Over the years I did all the improvements to the headlights to make them more effective but still when I installed the LED headlights the difference was worlds apart. You still have the same depth of light on the road in front of you but it's the spread that makes the huge difference, you can clearly see objects in the ditch to the right and you can see so much more of the left hand lane. Even if you have properly adjusted H4 headlights before the conversion, you still need to get these babies adjusted as they do aim lower. We found that 2 full turns of the horizontal screw brought them inline. Oh and the light color is more pleasing for the eyes.

                              As for the LED light bars, I have 4 x 18W light bars mounted on the roll cage plus 2 x 36W light bars mounted in front of the grill. The smaller 18W LED light bars are more effective in my eyes as they allowed me to adjust the spread of light to where I want it. Where as the 36W LED light bars give a more focused light in front of the landy.

                              These light bars, it has to be remembered that they are not replacements for driving lights as their light depth is too short even their "spot" beams. BUT as trail lights they are awesome, they light everything around you when your traversing a tight trail at night.
