    engine mechanic

anyone know of a good engine mechanic in NE NY or NW VT that would know the 2.25 petrol engines.I cannot resolve an issue and have tooooo much on my plate to dig into it at this time. I just got my bugeye project running and and cannot get the engine to run smooth or stop the black smoke out of the exhaust. Running VERY rough. I've adjusted all valves, played with timing, adjusted carb and nothing seems to help.

What about the points? Are adjusted correctly? Do they need replacing due to pitting?

Andy, see you still have the exmod as your avatar. I sorted this out it was the carb. I had a spare and changed that out and everything smoothed out nicely. A few adjustments and I'll give her another test run around the block. The entire distributor is a rebuilt unit all new.
