    Spedometer cable - R&R

So on my series IIA 66 FFR 88 (aka OLDTOY) - speedometer stops working. Removing the cable from the spedo - and going down the driveway - the cable does not turn. Soo - under the greasy beast and remove the two 5/16 head retaining bolts holding the spedo cable in place against the transmission. Sliding the outer cable around reveals the cable is snapped off about 16" up. C'est la guerre. HOWEVER - the 16" piece of cable won't withdraw from where it goes into the transmission. Is it just a slip fit - and maybe a good yank with a pair of pliers would do the job- or is there some other process I gotta do.

    Many thanks -

IIRC, the cable slips into a worm gear on the side of the transfer case and is held into place with three, impossible to get to flat head screws.

The cable has a flange on it, back the screws out and the flange comes off..........the cable is just "stuck" in the worm gear and should simply pull out.
