Number 7 intake Valve tick (2.25 petrol) cause?

I have isolated a tick in my motor that seems to point to the number 7 intake valve...

It is rythmic and increases as engine speed increases...
I have adjusted the valves 3 times (I have done valves for 20 years) but the tick remains on number 7...

I started the motor with the valve cover off, and saw good oil flowing to all rocker arms, push rods, and rocker shaft at idle...

I took a small oil can of 90wt and dropped a couple of drops on the rocker arm where it meets the push rod and also where it contacts the valve...there was no change in the noise.

Any ideas on what this might be would be helpful. The head was a bought in 1999 from RN and is a turner engineering head.

There is NO fluctuation in vacuum at idle (22 hg) or under power. There is no miss or lack of power...gas and fuel economy are fine. Motor burns no oil.

I am at a bit of a loss to figure out what this may be?

    Any help appreciated!

    Best,
    Griswald

Is there any chance that the rocker has worn in such a way that it now is a bit concave and thus when you think it is correctly adjusted it really isn't?

Possible yes. I actually tried to make that valve "tight" to see if the noise went away...it did not.

The valve may not be ticking when deploying, but rather when returning. In other words it may be sticking in the valve guide, though you say you have no unusual vacuum readings, so this may not be the case.

I suppose it could be chipped and the ticking noise is actually escaping gases. Have you run a compression check?

Compression is fine and uniform across all cyl. I am thinking now it could be worn rocker arms, bushings and rocker shaft...

^^Where are you located? If you need parts, I have spares to try.

Could be a worn roller on the camshaft, sometime they go like the shape of a 50pence piece, causing similar problems, as shown above.

I also wonder if this is something I can see with the camshaft in the vehicle?

Pull the inspection cover the side of the motor. You won't be able to see the entire cam, but you should be able to see enough.

I had a strange ticking in mine and it ended up being that.

You would need to take the fuel pump and mounting plate off to see part of the cam.
Not sure that you'll have enough line of sight to make a proper assessment though.
Only sure way is to take the head off and remove the tappet follower/s.
