    Weather Strip

I remember seeing a thread which discussed some alternative to door weather stripping. I can't seem to locate the thread using the search tool.

The cost of replacing with original stuff is extreme so I am looking for an alternative. This is for a 1970 Series IIa 88".

    Thanks!

IMHO you should consider Defender door seals - perfect fit and easy to install. I have the genuine ones, but have seen the aftermarket ones and they look pretty good.

I've used this with great success (but it was on a Lightweight where the Defender door seals wouldn't work):

In New Zealand you can buy series rubber door seals by the metre - from memory it costs about NZ$16/m, which makes it considerably cheaper than the OEM stuff. All that's missing is the metal insert that goes through the middle - in my case I simply bought a length of aluminium strip (cost less than NZ$30) and slid it into the rubber (technically, you could argue that this solution is better than the original because the original stuff is metal and rusts).

I've been trying to find the link, but can't right now - message me if you want me to track it down for you.

        Cheers,
        W.

Warren just for the heck of it, would you consider shipping it if someone here bought this through you? NZ is a long way off for most of us on this board, and companies are notorious about gouging people on international shipping.

for my '66 IIA I got weatherstripping from AutoZone. It is basically a bulb shape type a flat backing with adhesive on the backing. The flat part fit perfectly in the channel. Purists will balk, but it worked just fine for my needs and it was cheap.

                Hi Partsman,

Yep, I'd be happy to ship it - not sure of the shipping cost to North America though.

But I was down at the shop today and took a couple of pictures of the rubber strip that they sell by the metre.

Let me know if you're interested...

                Cheers,
                Warren.

Got the same material from John Craddock for 4.35 US per meter.

You have to measure, cut, mark for rivets, cut rivet holes, insert rivets in the strip and then pop the rivets.

If I had it to do over I would have spent the money on the genuine strips!
