    Steering wheel

    Hi,
Does anyone have a fix for an old S11a steering wheel. On humid mornings my hands are black from the steering as there are no "paint" left on it. Can it be painted with some twin pack epoxy?

    Any ideas appreciated.

I've just done mine. I used epoxy, too, and sanded everything down.

For paint I started with an undercoat for plastics. The two layers of 2K spray paint black and three layers of 2K clear.

I've worked wet-in-wet, ie only left about 5 mins between the layers, no sanding. I used a thin broomstick and turned the wheel slowly while spraying.

Turned out really nice, I've plenty of pics and thought of going a write-up if anyone is interested.

I would go with 2K and finishing coats in clear as sweat and the general use would otherwise wear down the paint soon.

You can also try a google search on painting plastic steering wheels.

Another option is to purchase a leather steering wheel cover from Pangolin 4X4

I second this. I've been using Ike's cover for years. I love it.

I've had one of Ike's covers since I bought my Rover almost 10 years ago. I love it!

I had him restore my post-66 (non banjo) steering wheel - same experience, good as new.
