Checking Hub oil on a 73 SIII- how to check/fill (aka, dude, where's my plug?)

Looked at this video on YouTube and I can't seem to find the right plugs to check the oil level and then top up if necessary-

All I can really find is this square plug- is it the one shot grease insertion point?

Yes the square plug is the fill/level plug for the swivel balls. You can keep the leather gators or ditch them if they're compromised.

That cover is a "gaiter" - people love or hate them. General thinking is they are good for use in a non wet/mud environment as they can trap both. They're great for keeping salt and dust/dirt off. I use them.

There is a small drain plug at the bottom of the swivel ball housing, under the swivel ball/gaiter. You will want to purchase a copper crush nut to use when you replace the plug

Also, dude - get a Series 3 owners manual on eBay! If you're going to be messing around with maintaining your truck (good!), don't be doing it without a manual (bad!). One thing Land Rover did really well was to product manuals that makes this stuff color-by-numbers easy, for anyone that is marginally mechanically inclined.

I do have the Haynes and the Green Bible and You Tube- but they use the example of the plug on the front of the hub- and this one is on the back.
