    Gasket adhesives

Hey group, excited to learn. I've been doing some of my owe work on my 01 disco mainly around coolant system and replacing gaskets. Can or should I use gasket silicon or spray on all gaskets. Talked to a few and also watched videos were some use spray and some dont use any at all. Is there a rule of thumb? Sorry if this a repeat thread. Thanks for thoughts

I don't generally use sealant on gaskets, except head gaskets. However, I do use thread sealant on all bolts and nuts, usually blue loctite (red loctite in critical locations, like axle nuts). In areas where a leak can occur, I use teflon paste (such as sump bolts on the engine and transfer case).

Oh, and before someone else brings it up, Disco II's should post on the Disco II thread. I know a Disco II is often called a Series II (2), but that is not what is on this thread. These are Series I's, II's and III's of the old sort.

Noted. And thank you. Maybe I should pick up a series 2.

This is what I have used for years on everything (except the cylinder head gasket). It should be available at any auto parts store.
