Door handle interchangeable?

Can the front left (driver side) door handle be installed on the rear door (1974 series 3)?

I think its the right door and rear door latches that are the same. On both doors the latch is to the left when you pull up on the handle to open the door. On the left side door the latch is to the right when you pull up on the handle.
