got an email back from Peter at EMLRA explaining what some of it means...

4X4 Rover II = Ministry of Defence name for this type of truck.

            Chassis No. 2512121011

Veh No. 08 FL 83 = This is the number that the vehicle had when it was in service, you will need this number if you ask EMLRA to conduct a history search, a member only service.

Cont No. WV 10000 = This is the Contract number when the vehicle was ordered by the MoD from Land Rover

Code No. 1040 0766 = This is code that identifies this specific vehicle type.

Covered by CES. No. 33572 = CES is the Complete Equipment Schedule. This is a list of the equipment this vehicle should carry. It was the driver's responsibility to ensure the CES was complete before it went on duty.

And painted on the side of the drivers seat (now passenger seat) is
T.M.P. ORD = TMP escapes me at the moment
WARMINSTER = a major training facility on Salisbury Plain.

pretty cool i thought...im going to join the site and attempt to get my specific history to see what else i can discover

That is pretty cool. And perhaps the easiest thing you have done on your truck. =)

Speaking of glove boxes- my IIa has one. The PO rivoted a piano hinge with an aluminum cover and latch to make the open section of the P/S dash a golve box of sorts. Why he did this...I have no clue.

Well it only makes sense- it keep things from falling out!

I've been meaning to make one of those glove box doors for years... I've saw one done in mahogany once- a little luxurious for a Land Rover, but well done. Why did they never made a factory glove box door? Seems an obvious amenity.

By the way Wander, did the PO also paint everything Marine Blue? I mean, the steering wheel? Wow.

(I may be stepping in it here, I hope you didn't do that):0
