    Off road lights

What kind of aux. lighting does anyone recommend? I was lookin at Baja Designs Soltek. They offer a nice wiring kit with sealed connectors at the lights, relay and a switch. I will most likely ditch the included switch in favor of a Land rover sp st switch to match the factory ones. Any advice on other brands and secrets on getting the wire from the rack to the dash cleanly would be great!

I have always been partial to Hellas and KCs. They have been around for a long time. Living in the rust belt I prefer complete black plastic housings to painted or chrome which both manufacturers have. Have had both and neither brand has ever let me down.

I prefer Hella myself, KC are great but more then once i have had to drill the rivets out and put in stainless screws holding the metal housing together. Never tried the plastic versions.
I have had Hella 500 - Hella 4000 and all have been fantastic.

Lightforce is another i would look at, totaly sealed and waterproof and adjustable. Had a set of these a while back and they were great.

When it comes to lights everything is how much do you plan to spend.
On my 109 i will put Hella 3000 on the roof and Hella 500 on the front bumper

If you are looking for Hella's check ebay! I found a set of 4000s brand new for under 200, you can't beat that. I also prefer the 4000. I own the driving lights, but their other bulbs seem tough to beat too!

Well I decided to go with the Hella 4000's. I also put their work light on the back while I was at it. Heres a few pictures of the finished product. Getting the wire for the work light through the rack's rail was a real pain and the only one around (my 4 year old) was not much help!

I'm very pleased with the Hellas! I'm still trying to decide on a way to get the wire into the engine compartment but for now what I did seems to be fine and isn't pinching. Made some custom brackets because I didn't want to drill my rack out to the size of the light (kinda big). Unfortunatley I only had one grade eight bolt that was the right length.. the other was zinc coated.. will fix that soon. Sorry if the pictures are big!

LOL I was really suprised to find the stone guards wouldn't fit both ways. I even remember seeing in the instructions something about mounting them that way... Of course that was the first item in the trash, the instructions.

While Aux. lights look neat, I have never felt them neccessary even when night wheeling. I've always felt the money was better spent on diff. guards or axle and differential upgrades.

I've been in situations where they helped tremendously. Was with 2 friends, front guy couldn't turn around and back guy got stuck bad. His front end was all but underwater and dim lights to boot. Had I not been able to turn around we would have been there forever trying to get him hooked in the near dark.

I do know what you mean though a good percent of the time they're more of a luxury than a necessity.

I'll agree My lights have paid for themselves! The more lights the better when I'm navigating at night. Things tend to pop out of no where a little to last minute with the stock lights. I prefer to see the obstacle in advance.
