What kind of Rover is This?

So this is my new Rover http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...179834411&rd=1

A bunch of y'all have looked at her and most have decided that it is a series III. Now I just need to figure out what engine, transmission and differentials I have. Here are the serial numbers. I'd appreciate any help that points me toward what I'm working with!

    Engine - Ford XSYJ12H008

    Transmission - <BIRMAID> 2
    576653CA
    LM22W
    A

    Rear Differential - 8HA-004-17D

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

have you checked to see if the numbers on your black plate match your frame horn? based on the 251 prefix in the VIN listed in the auction, it is a home market (britian) 109 from approx '64

        check it out

it's that's the case, it's seen some major changes in fittings since it left the factory. check your numbers on the plate and frame horn.

Anybody ever seen a "Birmaid" brand transmission on their series rover? The only google reference that comes up for "Birmaid" is in a forum where "Birmaid" is mentioned as the manufacturer of a twin cam cylinder head casting for an early lotus Elan S2-S3/Cortina era vehicle...

Looks like a ford transit diesel mated to a rover trans/t-case with a salsbury rear.

Thanks for the info - do you know where I would find info on the specs of this ford transit motor - like hp, torque, etc?

its obviously an early 2a/2 dr 109 with a conversion engine and a late model 2a nose most likely erected from parts.....

I will defer to the experts, but here is what came back from the VIN decoder at:

The Clifton website provides info on scientific text services, about the Linux BogoMips mini-Howto, off-roading in a Land Rover Discovery, and Arabic calligraphy on oriental rugs

CalVIN, the Land Rover VIN CALculator

                        25106443B

251 Model: Land Rover, Series IIA
                        Body type: Basic
                        Wheel base: 109in
                        Engine: petrol
                        Model years: 1962-1971
Destination: Home market, right-hand drive (RHD)
                        06443 Serial number
B Design: One significant design modification
Suffix used from March 1963 till April 1966

                        Definitely not plain II.

I would guess late IIA, but didn't the dash get padding with the III, or did it with the late IIAs? Not that that couldn't have been added...

Calvin will tell you where the VIN plate came from. I think we have all seen enough defenders with series VINs to know that the VIN does not always tell you much about the vehicle itself. This is a good example of that.
